I get it, I only learned about it in 2025, and I got curious fast.
The Fediverse is a network of independent social communities that can all talk to each other. No single company owns it. You join one community you like, and you can still follow and interact with people in other communities—kind of like how email works across Gmail, Outlook, and Yahoo.
Where do l start?
Mastodon is the most popular part of the Fediverse. It’s made up of thousands of separate communities (often called “servers”). Each server has its own rules and culture, but they connect to the same larger network. You pick where you belong, instead of being boxed into one platform’s decisions.
